Deloitte Digital / Doblin – 2015-19

.

I did projects from across the design process during my five-year design consulting tenure at Deloitte's Doblin (not part of Deloitte Digital) with a focus on insurance and financial services.

The vast majority of these projects were strictly confidential. I cannot share deliverables, the client, or identifying project details from them.

To give a sense for the breadth of work I did during this time, below are some high-level summaries of my projects from this era in my career.

Rapid prototyping for an insurance company

Worked on 2 separate engagements with a similar rapid prototyping structure for different verticals of the client’s business.

For both, created low-fidelity prototypes that were refined and iterated with users over multiple rounds of interviews and working sessions. Worked directly with the client’s development teams on sprint planning and MVP definition for the concepts our team articulated. A final product based on our concepts was launched in 2017.

User research intensive with a financial services firm

Led a team of 3 Doblin practitioners to conduct a design thinking training program for ~25 senior executives at a major financial services firm.

Each participant attended in-depth user research interviews to allow them to see methods up close and multiple full-day workshops were hosted to cover basic tools & techniques. The project was a part of a larger training effort that was featured in HBR.

User research and journey mapping in transportation

In the context of a major back-end system overhaul, assisted with conducting a variety of user research methods (intercept interviews, group interviews, observational studies) to map pain points and opportunities for delight across the organization’s transportation experience.

With the team, articulated several early stage concepts (both digital & physical) around these challenges.

Exploring the future of insurance claims

Co-led an effort within Deloitte to openly explore new ideas and interfaces in the insurance claims space.

Conducted generative and evaluative user research across two countries and produced multiple iterations of low and high-fidelity prototypes to show off possible concepts. The final prototypes were shared with leaders at two major insurance companies.

User research and concepts for an insurance company

Worked on a 2-month concept development effort for a major insurance company. Assisted with framing the problem statement, conducted numerous in-depth interviews, and co-facilitated a co-design session with users to explore ideas.

Designed early stage low-fidelity prototypes to articulate concepts for exploration in development.

Design sprints for an insurance company

Co-led a project with a major insurance company where the team conducted 5 back-to-back design sprints iterating on a soon to be launched concept.

Each sprint focused on a different uncertainty in the concept and multiple research interviews were conducted each week to help resolve those uncertainties.

Design thinking offsite for a retail executive team

Assisted in running a two-day offsite for the organization’s executive team around human-centered design.

Leading up to the offsite, assisted with bringing individual executives into real-world user research experiences so they could see tools up-close (in-home interviews, store observations, etc.) During the offsite itself, assisted with facilitation of the sessions.

Foresight thinking workshops for an insurance company

Led a team of 3 Doblin practitioners to put on a series of foresight-based workshops for 50+ employees to openly explore what the organization’s industry might look like 10+ years out using tools like scenario planning and paper prototyping.

Innovation opportunities for an energy company

Led the development and facilitation of multiple full-day sessions for the organization’s executive team to explore early ‘opportunity areas’ for growth and innovation.

Conducted an in-depth market scan of bleeding edge innovations inside and out of the organization’s market to support each opportunity area.
